Searching the Seymour Court Docket
Start at Indiana MyCase. Seymour has no city-only docket search of its own. A name, full case number, citation number, cross-reference, or attorney can each lead to the county record. The full cause number works best, since it names the court and cuts down false matches.
- Choose the MyCase Case, Name, or Attorney tab.
- Enter the strongest identifier and use only useful court, status, or filing-date filters.
- Open the likely Seymour result and check the court code, case type, filing date, and parties.
- Read the newest CCS lines for settings, filings, orders, and status.
- Call the matching Jackson County clerk counter when a date, image, balance, or official copy is missing.
For a deeper county-wide walkthrough, turn to the Jackson County case lookup. MyCase is free for basic public viewing, but its screen is not a certified record.
Seymour Has No City Docket
Seymour is Jackson County's largest incorporated place. Size, though, does not create a municipal court. The 2020 Census place table counts 21,569 residents, and the Indiana court directory still lists only Jackson Circuit Court, Superior Court 1, and Superior Court 2 for the county. No current Seymour municipal court appears there. So a Seymour address or a local police contact does not mean the city holds the case file.
The practical point is simple. Search county Odyssey courts, not an invented city portal. A city search that returns nothing may still be a live county case under a person's name, citation, or cause number.
Seymour Municipal Court Basics
The official Indiana court directory lists no current Seymour municipal court. The Seymour city website is a civic source rather than a court-search system. It covers city services. It publishes no municipal docket, city judge, or independent case calendar.
Seymour matters instead route by the Jackson local allocation. Superior I handles IF infractions, OV ordinance violations, and traffic work. It also takes small claims, ordinary civil actions, and assigned misdemeanors. Circuit and Superior II take the other assigned case types. Read the court code on the case. Do not assume every Seymour filing belongs to one counter.
Note: Do not send a court-record request to Seymour City Hall. An event or citation can still fall within city limits.
Seymour Court Code Clues
A cause number opens with a Jackson County court identifier. That local code beats the city name. It points a record request to the court that actually maintains the docket.
- 36C01
- Jackson Circuit Court, used for major criminal, estate, guardianship, and assigned matters.
- 36D01
- Jackson Superior Court 1, the likely route for traffic, ordinance, small-claims, and listed civil work.
- 36D02
- Jackson Superior Court 2, used for family, juvenile, protective-order, adoption, and assigned cases.
- 36E01
- The abolished Jackson County Court, retained only for archived Odyssey records.
Administrative Rule 8 sets the four-part Indiana case-number form. A sample like 36D01-2405-IF-000123 shows the court, filing year and month, case type, and sequence; it is not a real case.
Court Dates and Settings in Seymour
A Seymour court date shows up as a setting in the county case's public CCS. It appears when posted. Read the latest event, because an older date stays in the history after a reset. Seymour publishes no separate calendar of its own. Indiana Administrative Rule 9 still requires daily court calendars or dockets. Electronic format or another format both count, so the clerk and courthouse remain the fallback.
| Date | The scheduled day, subject to a later reset or vacated entry. |
|---|---|
| Time | The listed start or docket-call time. |
| Courtroom | The Jackson court or room assigned to the event. |
| Judge | The court or judicial officer shown on the setting. |
| Setting Type | Initial hearing, pretrial, trial, review, sentencing, or another event label. |
For a missing or urgent setting, identify 36C01, 36D01, or 36D02 and call that court. The county courthouse and clerk offices sit at 109 S. Sugar Street in Brownstown. That is the place, not Seymour.
Seymour City Hall Is Different
The City of Seymour lists City Hall at 301-309 N. Chestnut Street, phone 812-522-4020, with weekday office hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Those facts describe a city-services office. They do not make it the Jackson County clerk's counter or a source for a certified CCS.
| Seymour City Hall | Jackson County court offices |
|---|---|
| Municipal government and city services | Case dockets, clerk files, settings, and certified copies |
| 301-309 N. Chestnut Street | 109 S. Sugar Street, Brownstown |
| City contact line | Court-specific and clerk contact lines |
Seymour's official site calls the city a regional center near Indianapolis, Louisville, and Cincinnati. Even so, the county seat and the trial courts stay in Brownstown.
Traffic Tickets in Seymour
A Seymour traffic citation usually routes to Superior Court 1 under Jackson's current local allocation. Search MyCase by the full cause number. If the citation shows an agency or citation identifier, use the Citation Number field. An older reference may fit Cross Reference Number. The interface asks users to pick one of those two identifier fields. Do not use both at once.
The county clerk page lists the traffic-ticket clerk at 812-522-9676. The state directory lists Superior I at 812-522-9677. Keep that distinction straight, and ask which line handles the question at hand. Indiana ePay is the official payment route only when the live citation qualifies. A payment receipt is not a certified docket copy. It may not show each hearing event.
For county-wide ticket records, payment cautions, and date checks, see Jackson County traffic tickets. Never use a private payment site. The official link or clerk can confirm the route.
Seymour Records Beyond Indiana Courts
Some matters land in a court outside the Indiana county system. Jackson County federal cases are served by the Southern District of Indiana, New Albany Division. The official New Albany division page confirms that federal route.

The federal division page marks the boundary between a Seymour-related federal case and a Jackson County trial case. The federal case-search page points public users to PACER. CM/ECF, meanwhile, serves the filing side.

MyCase will not return those federal records. A state cause number and a federal case number live in separate search systems.
Where Seymour Cases Go
Seymour lists no municipal court of its own. A case lands in a Jackson County court based on its type and cause number. Superior I takes local traffic and ordinary civil matters. Circuit and Superior II receive the case families that the current local rule assigns.
Docket flow: Seymour incident or dispute › Jackson County Circuit or Superior Court › Court of Appeals of Indiana
Appeals move to a separate docket. The county cause number may appear there only as a lower-court reference. Federal claims go the New Albany federal route instead. This court-based flow keeps a docket search from stalling at Seymour City Hall.
Seymour Local Context Sources
Some Seymour pages point beyond Seymour itself. They offer Jackson County context, not Seymour court authority. The Crothersville history page records that town's railroad and shipping past.

Local history does not move Seymour dockets. Every incorporated place, Medora included, uses the Jackson County court structure in the directory. The Town of Medora site is another civic page.

Like Seymour's city page, it is local government. It is not an independent Jackson court portal, so court facts still come from the state court and county clerk sources.
Seymour Court Record Access Rules
Seymour's public court records are county records under Indiana's court-access rules. A public case header is not everything. Nor is the CCS. Juvenile, adoption, mental-health, sealed, expunged, and other protected matters may be absent or limited. Even an open case can hold back identifiers. Personal identifiers and protected medical, witness, child, or custody material can remain excluded within an otherwise public case.
Key rules:
Access Rule 1 states the public-access framework and its privacy and safety balance.
Access Rule 5 lists excluded records and information.
Indiana Access to Public Records Act supplies the general state public-records law.
Ask the Jackson County Clerk first. The clerk handles nonconfidential copies and current access instructions. Extraordinary access to excluded court records uses the verified process in Access Rule 9, not an ordinary name-search request.
Seymour Clerk Access Channels
Every Seymour case search ends at one desk. The Jackson County Clerk is the final fallback. Search online first, then match the code to the right counter. The counter sits at 109 S. Sugar Street in Brownstown, open during the published weekday hours and subject to closures. A public terminal or daily-calendar format may help. Phone works too. Use the clerk line or the court's own number. For mail, confirm the address, copy cost, and accepted method before sending a written request.
The clerk's state directory number is 812-358-6117, and the county page gives 812-358-6118, while Circuit is 812-358-6133, Superior I is 812-522-9677, and Superior II is 812-358-6803. The clerk posts no general public docket-request email, drop box, or Seymour subscription service, so remote search, phone, the counter, and written requests are the real channels for courthouse access.
Seymour CCS Document Checks
A Seymour docket search splits the case history from the papers behind it. The Chronological Case Summary tells the story in dates. Each line marks an event, like a filing, a service step, a hearing, an order, a payment, or a disposition. Some entries link to an order image. Others do not. An entry without a link can still point to a document sitting in the official clerk file. Indiana MyCase help says plainly that not every public paper goes online.
Start with the exact CCS line. Write down the date, event text, court code, and document name before you call. Then ask the clerk whether the document is public, whether you need an ordinary or certified copy, and what the current cost and delivery method are. Jackson local rule LR36-TR77-1 allows nonconfidential pleadings and orders to be copied at the requestor's expense, with cost paid in advance or upon receipt. The county posts no fixed per-page amount. So a Seymour request should not assume one.
Transcripts work differently. Indiana's request guidance sends a court-record copy to the county clerk but a transcript request to the court reporter. A payment screen is not certification either. Keeping the CCS, filing image, certified copy, transcript, and current financial balance separate keeps a Seymour docket search honest about what the source can provide.
Seymour Setting Status Review
Give a Seymour hearing entry a full chronological read. Scheduled means the court put the event on its calendar. Continued or reset points to a later date. Vacated removes that event without necessarily ending the case. Held says the event took place, though its result may show up in the next order. Dismissed and disposition describe case results, not calendar changes. Move through the CCS by date and call the court when the newest line is unclear.
For a time-sensitive Seymour matter, keep the cause number, case type, party role, and exact setting text close at hand. Those details help the clerk find the record. A city name alone will not do it. Treat the MyCase financial area with care too, since the state warns that balances can be incomplete or not current. The clerk supplies the official balance, and the court confirms what an order requires.
